Being apart of a vampire community isn’t as bad as you’d think it would be. Ours, however, does run a bit differently. As with any, there are some vampires who aren’t all there. Insane, I mean. Insane vampires are frowned upon and considered dangerous and sly. Well, they are. But, instead of locking them up in a wacky shack like idiotic mortals, well, we exterminate them. They’re brought in, tested, convicted, and then taken to a place, more like a room, where they are done away with in the way the executioner sees fit. I know, I used to be one.
Being one of them, I thought I could control the love for seeing blood I have. Call me sadistic if you wish, I really don’t care. I loved having that kind of control in my hands, a life I had to take, and a life I was ALLOWED, to take. All other exterminators hated that they had to kill their own kind in such a way, for me it was a completely different story. I quite enjoyed it. Slowly, but surely, my mind began to twist and form, reality’s grip slowly loosening from my hand. I, myself, lost my sanity. Love for blood, love for killing, to stalk our creatures, I was slowly going mad.
Once my life changing twist was found out, everyone was taken aback that something like this could happen to an exterminator. Finally, they came to a decision. My life was to be taken on all Hallows night, when the harvest moon would be at full set in the sky. My executioner was Jonathan Makell, my once loyal little apprentice. As I sat in that chair, in that small white room with no windows and only one door, with an amused smirk resting on my lips, I wondered how he was going to kill me. No. I wondered if I would let him kill me.
He stood 5’8”, his back resting against the door and arms crossed across his chest. His body suggested he was weak, but his was strong no doubt. His amber locks was brushed and slicked back, like a professional. His baby blue eyes were staring elsewhere; I guessed that he didn’t want to even look at me. The clothes on his skinny body barely held onto his frame. He wore a light tan pair of cargo pants, a white tank top and sneakers. I could see the handle of a knife protruding from its sheath on his black belt. The boy only looked twenty three in human years but, only half my years, he was fifty.
“So, how’re you going to do it?” I asked, amused still. He looked back at me slowly. “You…you aren’t supposed to talk.” Jonathan stated. I smirked. “Oh really? Gee, never would I ever have noticed Johnny.” I laughed hysterically. He narrowed his eyes a bit at me then looked down. “Shut up and don’t call me Johnny.” He ordered his voice soft. This boy couldn’t insult me or threaten me because of him once being my student. He could never amount to do it. I grinned mockingly. “Listen to yourself. You are so pathetic!” I laughed again. He glared at me but kept his voice from saying anything I knew he wanted to say. “Well, death is upon me, eh Johnny boy?” I asked, sitting back in the chair, knowing it would hurt him slightly.
I was tied tightly to the only piece of furniture in the blank room. My wrists crossed and tied lightly against the back. That rope wrapped around to my stomach and back, secured again. My ankles were tied to the sides of the chair, as were my legs. The ropes were made with strong materials that vampires couldn’t get out of. It was created by elder vampires when I was five in my vampirisms years. As we stared back at each other, I thought, ‘No, I won’t let him kill me.’ I smiled. “Hey, Jonathan, since you’re going to kill me in a few minutes anyway, mind taking off the ties for a bit?” I asked as sincere as my voice could do. He shook his head slowly after a second of hesitation. “I can’t. B-But I can loosen them a little if you want.” He offered, already beginning towards me.
I felt as the ropes on my ropes lessened, that was all I needed. All it took was a quick moment for me to rip my hands free from the ropes grip, grab Jonathan’s poorly misplaced knife from his belt and punch him away far and hard enough for him to land sprawled on the floor across the room. Using my time quickly, I quickly cut the ropes away from my legs and stood. I looked back at little Johnny as he rose to his feet slowly and cautiously. I smirked, he flinched. I let out a maniacal laugh, pointing the knife’s sharp blade at him before grinning wickedly. “Never trust me Johnny. I’ve been known to cheat.” I cackled again. He glared then finally ran at me, his fist raised for a fight he wouldn’t do anything in. I only yawned mockingly, stepping aside when he poorly tried to slam his fist against my jaw.
He blinked stupidly as he missed, a grin returning to its place upon my lips as I slammed the back of my boot hard against his back. Well, it would have been his back if hadn’t dumbly turned around. My boot collided hard with his gut, making him hit the ground with a hard thud, him gasping and coughing for the air I had just knocked out of him. I simply took the ring of keys off his belt (shocker he put them there) and began towards the door. “G-Get…back here!” I heard little Johnny hiss with whatever breathe his lungs could gather. I smirked back at him as I peered over my shoulder. He really was pitiful. He lay there, sprawled across the white tile floor, his right hand wrapped around his stomach and the other hand reached out with his nails digging into the tile, hoping to get at me. God! I loved the hateful look in his eyes! Almost made him seem vicious…almost.
I let a smile slide its way upon my face. “Ah, Johnny, Johnny. Little Jonathan, you’re so pathetic. Look at yourself! You lay there at the feet of your once great master, your great teacher. You were outwitted by a man whose sanity is up in the air and jumbled around like bats in sunlight! You’re weak, pathetic, pitiful. I thought I had taught you so much better than this. You will be nothing more than a loser. I wasted my time with you.” I chuckled darkly. I could tell by the way he stopped moving for a bit, his breathing calmer and his eyes a bit wider and glazed over that I had struck a big nerve. When I had been training him, he did all he could to impress me. It did…back then. He had looked up to me like a hero and always told me he would be stronger than me one day. Now he is a weak little mongrel that lay of his hero turned villain, and he knew he couldn’t do anything about it. I could tell by his slow trembling that I had hurt him greatly…how I loved it.
I smirked and unlocked the door, leaving the hurt young man behind. These halls were usually empty. So, I just stride through like a ghost. I clutched the handle of the knife in my left hand still before stopping and bending down to slip it into my boot. I knew the whole vampire headquarters like the back of my hand and found the exit, making my escape. The cold night breeze hit me hard and without warning, enough to make me smile. The moon shone with brilliance, the stars slowly appearing and taking their places beside it in the sky. Because of the unmoving and still heart in my chest, no blood ran through my veins to give me warmth so the cold wind that rushed at me and blew through my deep purple hair did not chill me nor did it give me goose bumps as it would a little human.
I wanted to stay and look at that beautiful night forever, but they would catch me if I stood there dumbfounded. I ran a pale hand through my hair then took off. The wind whipped around me, hard and cold, as I ran. My trench coat fluttered behind me as my feet barely touched Earth in my run. It was more that I pushed forward and glided over the ground rather then run. I knew I had to get as far away as possible. I may be mentally insane, but I wasn’t stupid. If I stayed near the headquarters or at any of the resting points vampires had set up over the years I would be caught in a heartbeat. I knew exactly where each of these points were and avoided them. I had to get away fast. I couldn’t get caught, not yet. I had so many plans and I have so much time to do them.
